Ripenote

Timelock letters · no account

Letters that ripen. Nobody can open them early — not even us.

No account. Nothing stored. Sealed by math, opened by time.

Free to seal. Free to open, forever.

How it works

Three steps. The middle one is the clever part.

  1. 01

    Write

A letter, a prediction, a promise. It never leaves your device unencrypted.

  2. 02

    Seal

Your device locks it to a future drand round. The key for that round does not exist yet — anywhere.

  3. 03

    It opens

On the date, the drand network — run by an independent group of organizations — publishes that round's key. Anyone with the link can open it.

A timeline of drand rounds, one every 3 seconds. Today your letter is sealed to a future round whose key does not exist yet. On the chosen date the network publishes that key and the letter opens.Today: sealeda round every 3sthe key for your date doesn't exist yetRYour datekey published → opens

What people seal

Letters · private

To your daughter on her 18th birthday. To your partner on your 10th anniversary. To your team on launch day next year. Share a link, print a keepsake, or keep a file.

Receipts · public

Post a sealed prediction on X: “Opens 1 June 2027.” When the day comes, anyone can open it. The post shows when it was made. It doesn't show who wrote it, and it isn't advice.

What if Ripenote disappears?

Your letters still open. Every capsule is the open tlock + age format on drand's public quicknet network, so drand's own open-source tools can open it without us.

Questions

Can Ripenote open my letter early?
No. We never have your letter, and the key for your date doesn't exist yet. It is published by the drand network at that moment, and not before.
Where is my letter stored?
Nowhere on our side. The sealed letter lives inside the link, the QR card, the printed keepsake, or the .seal file you keep. Browsers never send the part of the link after # to any server.
What if I lose the link?
Then the letter is gone. We can't recover it because we never had it. Keep the link, download the card, or save the .seal file — ideally two of them.
Is it unbreakable?
No honest system is. It uses timelock encryption on drand, using the open tlock standard. If a majority of drand's independent operators colluded they could open capsules early, and the scheme isn't quantum-resistant. If the network stopped for good, capsules for later dates couldn't be opened. Read the limits.
What does a receipt prove?
A sealed receipt shows that the text existed when that drand round was published. A post on X only shows when that post was made. Neither one shows who wrote it, and Ripenote doesn't check whether a prediction comes true.
Do I need an account?
No. There are no accounts. Lifetime is a one-time payment that gives you a license key; paste it on up to 3 devices.
Is there a subscription?
No. Lifetime and the occasion packs are one-time payments. There are no ads, no tracking pixels, and we never sell data.
Can you email it to them on the date?
No. We don't store the letter or an address, so we can't send anything later. Send the link now with Email or WhatsApp — they still can't open it early — and add a calendar reminder.
I lost the link.
We can't recover it. Check the email or message you sent, the calendar event, the card image, or the .seal file.
I forgot the passphrase.
Nobody can open it, including us. That's what the passphrase is for.
Can I open it early if it's an emergency?
No one can, including us. The key for that date does not exist yet.
Does it work in the X app?
Yes, you can read it there. Open the link in your browser to download or print.
What happens to photos' location data?
It's removed on your device before the photo is sealed. We never receive the photo.
Where's my license key?
In the purchase email from Dodo Payments. Paste it on the unlock page.
I paid but the site asks me to pay again
The payment went through. This browser just doesn't have the key yet, and there is no account to sign into. Search your email from Dodo Payments for Ripenote, then paste the key on the unlock page. You can also open your purchase page there: enter the email you paid with, and the sign-in link shows your keys.
What is a license key?
It's the proof of purchase. No account needed. Paste it on the unlock page and it works on up to 3 devices, or 10 for the Team pack.
I got a new phone
Paste the same key on the unlock page. A key works on up to 3 devices, or 10 for the Team pack. If the new phone says every slot is taken, open Your keys on a device you no longer use and choose Deactivate this device. On iPhone, add Ripenote to your Home Screen so the unlock stays saved. Lost the old phone? Email contact@ripenote.com with your key and we'll free a slot.
Where are the letters stored?
In the links you receive and your box file — not on our servers. ripenote.com never sees the letters.
Are you responsible for what people write?
No. Ripenote has no accounts, can't read letters, and doesn't know or verify who wrote one — the To and From names are just what the sender typed. Letters are between the people who write and receive them; we don't check predictions or endorse them, and we aren't responsible for what they say or what anyone does because of them.
Does opening cost anything?
Never. Opening capsules is free for everyone, forever — whether or not the writer paid, and whether or not Ripenote still exists.
